Guide to Card Access
Electronic Access
This access is automatically added to your WashU ID card upon printing and can be manage remotely.
Electronic Access is used to get into all Danforth Campus, South 40, and some Medical Campus buildings.

Standalone Access
This access requires special encoding at an in-person location.
Standalone Access is used to get into many inner-building doors, labs, and multipurpose rooms. See below for encoding.

Requesting New Access
All requests for new access must be directed to Access Control & Electronic Security
Our department does not/cannot alter your Card Access.
All Medical Campus requests must be made through Protective Services.

Receiving Encoding
for those that require new Standalone Access
Danforth Campus
Encoding for Main Campus can be done through an in-person visit to Our Office or through a visit to Access Control & Electronic Security.
South 40
Encoding for the South 40 is directly managed by Residential Life to ensure security.

Receiving Confirmation
for those that require new Electronic Access
All requests for new Electronic Access on the Danforth Campus must be directed to Access Control & Electronic Security.
Once you hear back from Electronic Access, your card should be able to access the newly added door or location. No in-person visit is required.
